Aazamiya Sunni Mosque

A unit of American marines combated violently against shooters hidden in this mosque of Aazamiya, presumably fedains of Syrian origin, when of the fight of Baghdad.  The combats lasted several hours. The Sunnite mosque minaret was reached by a howitzer of the Americans tanks and the secular entrance door of the Iman Abou-Hanifa’s mausoleum, Muslim theologian, father of the Anafit doctrine, was divided in two halves by one  American soldier’s shot-gun, the structure of the mausoleum that sheltered the urn, made of lacquered wood and polished metal,  was  slightly reached by splinters. The damages are not significant but an important symbol of Islam was reached.   An American soldier was dead and 13 wounded.  The Iraqi casualties they are ignored.
