Daily, Iraqis enter in the city civilians’ hospitals reached with bullets by thefts or theft attempts: new cars, young women, clocks and shoes are enough reason to be shooted the head in the street. The residents of Baghdad loaded of weapons, watch their houses 24 hours a day. They also take their children to the school and look after their return home.

Abdil Raidal, travels in a convoy carriage, of the Iraqi railroad company, towards al-Basrah to visit his sister, Iraq, 2003/05/14. Abdil is a Shia, and great part of his family was died, during the war Iran-Iraq. He was a farmer in Nassyria before beginning to suffer mental disturbances. Nowadays, he lives in the Railroad Central Station of Baghdad, since he escaped from the Al-Rashad Mental Hospital, and travels freely by train, without paying a note.

Alouan Negech, 27 years, worker of the oil industry 4 years ago, closes a faucet of the Iraqi refinery of petroleum of Southern Oil Company (SOC), al-Basrah, Iraq, 2003/05/15. With a capacity of refining of 140.000 barrels/day, this unit, the second oil refinery of Iraq, never stopped its production during the war. Nowadays, under control of the coalition forces, it is being improved in what refers to safety’s conditions, replacement of spare pieces, in lack due to the embargo, and quality of the final product.

Well-known as the new presidential palace, was very early bombarded by the coalition forces. Placed at the margin west of the Tigris river, it occupies 97.000 m2 of lush lands; it is composed by VIP residences and a central building with 4.400 m2 footprint. The pillages of the palace continue, mostly for Shiites inhabitants of the miserable district of al-Sadr, old Saddam City.

Qusay Saddam Hussein, chief of security’s special services ordered a campaign of ” cleaning ” of the Iraqi prisons, in the beginning of 1997, that is to say, the physical, continuous and systematic elimination, of the condemned prisoners to the capital punishment or the more than fifteen years of prison. The prisoners were shot, electrocuted or hung. The political prisoners’ bodies were not given to the families. If these wanted to recover the bodies they would have to pay the price of the bullets used in the execution. Since the beginning of this campaign 2238 prisoners were executed in the prison of Abu Ghraib.

Tarek, the only male son, is only going once a week to the school for fear from being kidnapped. On the other days he doesn’t leave his house and he sleeps 3 at 4 hours a night to guarantee the safety of the family goods. Therefore he has a Kalashnikov machine gun, 2 automatic pistols, great number of ammunition, some bars of TNT and incendiaries materials propellers of ammunition. During the night, close to the gate of the garden, the family places several recipients with gasoline, ready to be burn at a gun shot. The families of the nine residences of the Indian street is organized and, three serial shots up on the air, mean that are menaced by one of the frequent robbery attempts of armed delinquent gangs .
